Completed in 1435 amidst the Hundred Years' War's devastation, Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, opened a hospital for the poor on January 1, 1452. The Hospital Sisters have provided care for the homeless and resourceless since then. The miniature Hospices de Beaune model represents this hospital, distinguished by its polychrome roofs, a stunning example of Gothic architecture from Burgundy and Flanders, making it a beautiful stop in the tour of France's miniature monuments.
